Launch into the Deep

Launch into the Deep devotional design
Luke 5:4–7“Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.” — Luke 5:4 (KJV).
Simon and his companions had worked through the night without catching fish. Jesus instructed him to launch into the deep and let down the nets. Simon acknowledged their unsuccessful effort, yet acted at Jesus’ word. The catch became so large that they called their partners to help. Failure had not placed Simon beyond the reach of Christ’s direction. A disappointing season did not have the final word over his response. Jesus met him in the place where he had laboured. For us, launching into the deep means responding courageously to the Lord’s direction, not taking careless risks. A new step should agree with Scripture and be accompanied by wisdom. Previous disappointment can inform your decisions without imprisoning your faith. Perhaps you need to try again with better preparation, seek help, or approach an assignment differently. Do not let embarrassment keep you from receiving counsel or partnering with others. Divine acceleration is not a command to rush. It is a call to trust Christ with the next faithful step. Bring Him the story of your empty nets, and remain open to the direction He gives.

Confession of Faith

Yesterday’s empty nets need not close your heart to today’s instruction. Trust Jesus and act wisely.
